Grovetown man guilty of sex with child, could face life in prison

A Columbia County jury found a Grovetown man guilty Wednesday of 12 felonies for sexually assaulting a child.

After three days of testimony and deliberation, the jury found Arthur Clarence Williams Sr., 33, of Katherine Street, guilty of four counts of aggravated child molestation, four counts of child molestation, two counts of rape and other charges.

Mr. Williams was accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl between April 2004 and April 2008. The girl was between 6 and 10 years old at the time of the incidents.

A July 2008 indictment charged Mr. Williams with 12 counts of aggravated child molestation, four counts of child molestation, four counts of rape and four other charges of a sexual nature.

A sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled, but Mr. Williams could receive life in prison without parole.

Life without parole shouldn't merely be an option but an absolute obligation on the part of the judge. This is a terminal "cancer" (an insult to cancer!) inside of child molesters that cannot be cut out, irradiated or chemically treated..these offenders must be swiftly and completely removed from society. They cannot change their desires and actions any more than they can change their race. The part of my taxes that is paying for their incarceraction is money well spent!

making it day by day

For four years a child between 6 and 10 years of age had to live through this. The article says the perp. "could get life in prison." Once again, this goes back to the people who make the laws, not the people who enforce the laws. We should pay more attention to who we elect as senators, congressmen, etc., than judges and district attorneys. Judges and district attorneys and policemen can only carry out what the law says. Child molesters need harsh punishment because this seems to be a sickness with them. Castration of the perp. would prevent him from ever doing this again. It might also encourage people to come forward and ask for help if they know the punishment before hand. To me this would be better than life in prison. The upkeep for a prisoner for life woulld be a big drain on tax money that could surely be put to better use elsewhere.
