CHARLESTON, S.C. - It's a solemn day in Charleston, as the city pauses to mark the second anniversary of a furniture store fire that claimed the lives of nine firefighters.

Thursday's remembrance will be more muted than a year ago when Gov. Mark Sanford and about 1,500 people marked the first anniversary.

This year, the site of the Sofa Super Store fire, where a city memorial is planned, will be open for people to pay their respects. At 6 p.m., the site is open to the families of the fallen and then the public can visit the site from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.

No speeches will be made. Fire Chief Thomas Carr will read the names of the fallen and a fire bell will ring nine times.
