The Aiken County Detention Center is among 23 jails in South Carolina that recently started offering a victim notification service.
The service, funded by a grant through the South Carolina Department of Corrections, offers crime victims the chance to get information about those arrested via a phone call or e-mail. Aiken County sheriffs Capt. Charles Barranco said the service was started at the Aiken County jail a couple of months ago, adding, Its a great program.
Victims can sign up to get more information about the status of offenders, receiving updates when theyre released or transferred. To sign up, call (866) SC-SAVIN or go online to www.vinelink.com.
