Police: racing may have caused double fatal wreck

TUCKER, Ga. - Two people have been killed and two others critically injured in an interstate crash police say may have been caused by two cars racing.

Police spokeswoman Bettina Durant said investigators are looking into the possibility that a Corvette and Mustang were racing on I-285 North before the fatal crash, which occurred between the Lawrenceville Highway and LaVista Road exits. She said the driver of the Corvette lost control of the vehicle, hitting the guard rail and an SUV.

She said two people in the Corvette were killed and two in the SUV injured.

Durant identified the dead as 20-year-old Brandon Phillips, the driver, and 18-year-old Jordan Makanani.

Authorities are looking for the Mustang driver who they believe witnessed the accident.

Why would a parent give the keys of a Corvette to a 20 year old kid? That is signing his death certificate.

Amen oldenuff.

Have you considered that he bought the car himself?

Young people see no danger, they don't think about death, those thoughts are for us older folks. Kids think when they are that age that nothing can happen to them. Bless them all for they know no better.

Had a porsche 911 about that age. Suprised i didn't kill myself. Have a Corvette now, I dont think ive ever had it to 90 mph in the four years i've had it. Things change when you have a family and have to fix the car if you break it. When you burn out a set of $1500 tires, you learn to take it easy. My question is why race a mustang? There really isn't any competition there. Lame car.

Oh, sure. They just want to interview the mustang driver as a witness to the accident. Right.
