Police believe a murder-suicide today in south Augusta was the result of an argument about unfinished remodeling work.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office investigators were called out to a home in the 3500 block of Redd Drive around noon where a man’s body was lying in the driveway, sheriff’s Lt. Scott Peebles said in a media release this evening.

The man, Frank Lee Walker, Jr., 44, had been shot in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After entering the home, investigators found the body of 53-year-old Donnie Lurth McKey in the bathroom. He had also suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and was transported to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police that Mr. McKey was arguing with Mr. Walker about work done on his home that had been paid for but not completed, Lt. Peebles said.

In the midst of the argument, Mr. McKey pulled out a gun and shot Mr. Walker in the forehead. Mr. McKey returned to the inside of his home and shot himself.

Mr. McKey’s girlfriend and a 12-year-old relative were present at the time of the shootings.

Family members told police that Mr. McKey has a history of depression and other mental issues.

An autopsy on the two men will be conducted at the Augusta Crime Lab at 8 a.m. Saturday.

All the media outlets are

All the media outlets are doing the same thing. "We have a shooting on Redd Dr. We won't tell you anything so go out there and get in the police's way until we figure out what we are doing"...

They all want to be the first

They all want to be the first to "break the story" but have no information to go with it. Kindof pointless and irresponsible reporting if you ask me. JCG: Tomorrow is June 13. Tune in for more details as they come available...

Funny thing is News 12 at 5pm

Funny thing is News 12 at 5pm interviewed a woman who's tag line (the bar under her name) said relative of victim. Well if they know who the relatives are then why not state who the vics are?
It can't be a case of having to notify the relatives beacuse they seem to have come forward already.

may God bless the children

may God bless the children and families of both victims. We must be careful of the company that we keep or conduct business with. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man but the ends thereof are the ways of death and destruction. Lord, we pray that you strengthen everyone involved and give them peace that surpasses ALL UNDERSTANDING! Amen.......
