Augusta will be the host for the 2010 International Mountain Bicycling Association World Summit, it was announced today.

The event will be held May 5-8.

“It is truly an honor to host the IMBA gathering in Augusta. Our city continues to grow in its reputation as a bicycling destination, and this event will showcase our region to a worldwide audience of trail enthusiasts,” Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver said in a prepared statement.

The event will address a number of topics, including destination and urban trail networks, land conservation and sustainable trails, youth outreach and new programs.

The summit will include a tour of the Forks Area Trail System in nearby Sumter National Forest.
