Crew demolishes wrong house

  • Follow Latest News

CARROLLTON, Ga. — A crew using coordinates from a global positioning system demolished a 60-year-old home in Carrollton earlier this week - but it was the wrong house.

The home's owner, Al Byrd of Atlanta, said a neighbor called him to tell him that the house he grew up in — along with his family heirlooms — had been destroyed and thrown into Dumpsters.

No one was living in the house at the time.

Mr. Byrd said his father built the house by hand in 1950.

He said he is talking with an attorney but hasn't made any decisions about what to do. He said he has gotten an apology from the companies that made the mistake.

You have got to be kidding

You have got to be kidding me!!! They relied on a GPS to determine which house to demolish. They should have gotten the property owner to make a circle on a map of the State. A lawsuit is well justified for this kind of lazy negligence.

I have heard of people

I have heard of people building a new house on someone else's property by mistake, but this is the 1st time I heard of the wrong house being demolished. Somebody did not do their homework.

I usually do not agree to suing somebody for a mistake. But at this point I have to agree with Edward1968.

Did they not get a permit to

Did they not get a permit to do the work. Didn't they need necessary information to do this type of work such as homeowner information? I wonder if they even had an asbestos report. This is crazy!!! Yes we have become a society to sue, sue, sue but there is no excuse for this mix up. Sue the heck out of them.

Watch the companies involved

Watch the companies involved file for bankruptcy, go out of business and start over with a new name to keep from having to pay for this colossal error.
