Knology customers in the Augusta area got 11 more high definition channels added to the lineup today.
Knology also announced this morning that it has expanded its library of offerings in the video on demand service.
We have increased content storage capacity, allowing us to provide even more choices now and in the future, said Tony Palermo, vice president of marketing for Knology.
Knologys Augusta high definition subscribers now have 33 HD channels to choose from. Knology added Planet Green, The Weather Channel, HGTV, Food Network, ABC Family, Disney Channel, FX, AMC, FOX Sports South, Speed and the Outdoor Channel.
Thats about all there is producing HD, Mr. Palermo said. There are six more channels that Knology will consider adding in the future.
Knology changed its technology for video on demand, Mr. Palermo said. The new technology can handle 6,000 hours of content, up from 2,000 hours, he explained.
So now were out negotiating with the content aggregators to add more content to the video on demand, he said.
In a response to its chief competitor, Comcast, Mr. Palmero said the company is introducing Digital Gateway, a digital box that allows customers to access the on-screen menu and video on demand service without having to subscribe to all the digital channels in the lineup.
The Digital Gateway is an excellent way for customers to transition to digital television, Mr. Palermo said. It gives them a good sampling of the information and entertainment options that are out there.
Knology, headquartered in West Point, Ga., has been in Augusta for 11 years.
Thank you Knology. Now I think you suck a little less.
Well mommie you must not have had Comcast before! Try their customer service!
Comcast has gotten a lot better since they got rid of Austin Rhodes doing their on air show and commercials. The man just has people walking around s...faced on the hate associated with him. AB does a good job on the air and bringing in subscribers.
Years ago, I let some walk-around-the-neighborhood Knology salesman talk me into switching from Comcast to Knology because they had a "CollegeFootball" station...24 hrs a day of nothing but college football games, usually a few years to a few decades old. I'm a big Georgia fan so I signed up to video tape about 20 old Georgia games. Well, after about a month and a half, that daggone station closed down and I had nothing I really wanted on Knology!! I have to say that the service is better than Comcast's service was. Comcast seems to lead the way, and then Knology comes up from behind to catch up sooner or later! They're both expensive as hell, though!
I'd like to get Knology, and those 11 HD channels. But guess what.....they said they aren't in my area.
It's not so great for us cheapskates who don't want to buy all the crap that goes along with digital cable. For us, all this great improvement did was take away the only movie channel that doesn't give you 5 min of movie for 10 min of commercials, TCM.
It's simple folks..... Knology cares about their customers and Knology has better rates and pricing. Yes Knology needs to increase their service area but it's not all about what you don't have but more about maintaining what you do have!
Shoot, chatter, I'm losing one of my favorite channels and still paying as much as ever. The is about the third time they've moved channels I really like from expanded basic to digital only, while leaving ever single shopper and basic sports channel in place. What's so great about that if you don't like sports or infomercials?
Im with mllange on this. Hephzibah needs ya Knology.
