A Martinez teen was being held without bond this morning in connection to a May 23 wreck that severely injured a Lincolnton teen.

Ashley Teeters, 16, was charged with serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving and violation of a Class D license in connection with a wreck that left Tyler Epps, 16, paralyzed.

Columbia County Juvenile Court Judge Doug Flanagan denied granting her bond.

"This is a serious charge," Judge Flanagan said of the license restriction that prohibits newly licensed drivers from having non-family passengers for the first six months. "The court is always concerned about violations of a Class D license."

Police said Ms. Teeters was driving about 90 mph on Ray Owens Road in Appling just before 2 p.m. when she lost control of her vehicle while navigating a curve. The Mercury Sable flipped several times and landed upside down in a ditch, leaving both her and the front seat passenger, Ian McGahee, 15, of Lincolnton, with minor injuries.

Tyler, who was riding in the back seat, was airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he is in fair condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

None of the teens were wearing seat belts.

Ms. Teeters also is charged with shoplifting for attempting to steal several clothing items from Kohl's in Evans on Monday. She also faces a March 30 simple battery charge and May 6 unruly juvenile charge.

She will be booked into the Columbia County Detention Center today, then be transferred to the Regional Youth Detention Center.

Sounds like this young lady has some serious isues. All before the ripe old age of 17...

TrukinRanger

Lady??? Don't think so... she needs to be locked up for a while until she grows up. Too bad her parents can't go with her.

saltine

out of sight, out of your control

mosovich

what we need is some labor camps! HARD labor camps.. Now that would make one think twice!

areyouserious

Where were her parents? How was she even allowed to be out of the house after the March 30th incident, nevermind the May 6th charge. I would have been in big trouble. Had she been more closely supervised after the two preceding incidents, the accident may not have happened. She obviously has not had any consequences because she stole Monday!

rufus

Daffy Duck finally got one right

Little Lamb

You reckon they'll put her picture in the paper tomorrow?

mad_max

I'll bet her parents did not believe in spanking when she was a young child. It's amazing how a very few butt poppings can save so much grief down the road. Now this one is too old to learn "limits" and will need to be locked up for a long time. Of course, our courts won't do it and she will be a frequent visitor to the "probabtion" system. She will get 6 months probation and the young man got paralyzed for life. She needs to do about 15 years hard labor.

wise ole man

How sad.Such a waste of life. I do hope it is a long long time before this child is allowed to drive again. Ray Owens Road is not the place to show off your NASCAR driving skills but in this case, I guess it was a great place to show how stupid young driivers like Ms. Teeters can be. Class D was created in an effort to prevent senseless deaths and wrecks by our young people. Evne after Teeters scrape with death, she still could not manage to stay out of trouble. Didi she drive herself to Kohl's? SHe needs help or a short stint in a woman's prison.

workingmom

Such a tragic thing to happen to people so young.

buddydawg

This girls mother and step-father are in jail, fwiw.

debby

If that's true, buddydawg, then the apple sure didn't fall far from the tree.

stillamazed

She obviously has issues, glad she is off the streets, she seems like a time bomb waiting to explode. With the parents in jail who was watching her if that is true buddydawg? Maybe that explains some of her behavior. Sounds as if she needs a wake up call of some jail time and serious counseling.

up2nogood

I don't think it's true that her parents are in jail. From what I've heard, they were in court this morning with her.

Tots

lock the girl up before she kills somebody. She must have some real issues.

patriciathomas

the unbuckled seat belts protected the two in the front seat, but did nothing for the one in the back. The stats hold up. Thank you for sticking to the law, Judge Flanagan. Young drivers that have moved beyond the class D license are seldom ready to drive and the ones that haven't are NEVER ready. The foolishness of inexperience and youth have combined to paralyze this boy. I hope this story is broadcast on every news show for the nest two or three weeks.

Her pic is on her facebook account. Guess she will not be tweeting anytime soon.. wait.. she is a jailbird now.. tweet on ashley the reckless driver/shoplifter/bully!!

Grasshopper

This is what happens to out of control teenagers, I pray Tyler will have a miracle recovery!

smAShT

neither of this young girl parents are in jail...but more or less not sure what do with a misguided young woman that is trying to grow up way to fast...ydc will only harden this teenager.

plfreeman706

Tyler is my cousin and I just want to set the record straight on one thing real quick. Tyler isn't in fair condition. He is still in Shock Trauma ICU at MCG. I am not sure what spokeswoman from the hospital said this is fair condition, but this is not accurate information.

redapples

Sad situation for all involved.

ldsmith1

I talk to my daughters all the time about being careful who they ride with. Young Mr. Epps should have had his seatbelt on, but other than that, he put himself completely at the mercy of the wrong person. What a tragedy.

lepps412

Valerie, Please correct your statement about the status of Tyler. He is still in critical condition - not fair. Thank you...

lepps412

And Idsmith, I stay on Ty about a seatbelt, but just because you "talk" to your children doesn't mean they will always do what you say. He ALWAYS wears his seatbelt when he's with me, but none of us can be sure what our children may do when we aren't looking.

joeuser

Here is a NOVEL solution:
1) spank her a$$
2) cut off her mobile phone and text messaging
3) eliminate her internet access
4) monitor all incoming landline phone calls (via listening in to her conversations)
5) take away her car keys until she pays her court fees, etc.
6) take away TV privileges
7) spank her a$$ again for good measure....but this is all too easy, I am sure. So let her ruin her life along with others that she comes in contact with.

crackerjack

I guess its too late to suggest late-term abortion.

smAShT

really crackerjack...pity on you..maybe you take the time to get to know the partys involed before you make an shallow comment.

corgimom

I urge everyone connected with the Epps family to focus on Tyler and his recovery. If he is in critical condition, and fighting for his life, then it probably would help him more to concentrate on him and not us. I would not think of posting on a blog if my child was in that condition, and I'm not sure why the family is choosing to do this, but I don't think it is helping them or Tyler.

suzy-qs

this is a concern of the epps family after all this young lady was driving the car when ty was injuried . the whole small town read the blogs they post for up dates on ty . this girs chages and things go towars part of the epps family healing also
