Nurse shot in parking lot

  • Follow Latest News

A nurse was shot this morning as she walked to Select Specialty Hospital to begin her shift, according to Investigator Patrick Cullinan of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigator Cullinan said Lisa Escalante, 32, was leaving the hospital’s employee parking lot on Wrights Avenue shortly before 6 this morning when a man on a bicycle passed in front of her, muttering something.

The man then made a U-turn, circling back toward the woman, the investigator said. He tried to grab her purse, but she fought back. The man then pulled out a revolver and shot her once in the shoulder.

Investigator Cullinan was unsure of her condition as of noon, but said she was sitting up and speaking.

The investigator is reviewing a video of the attack and is looking for other surveillance videos in the area that might have recorded the incident.

This is nothing new, downtown

This is nothing new, downtown or in the local suburbs either for that matter. It's been going on for decades. Must have happened a little too close to someone here for comfort.
