A convenience store clerk was arrested today in an armed robbery that occurred at her store June 1.

Aiken County sheriff’s Capt. Troy Elwell said he would have the worker’s name available later today.

The robbery occurred at the Hot Spot convenience store in New Ellenton. Customers told police that a man armed with a black handgun walked into the store and ordered everyone on the floor.

The man reportedly took an undisclosed amount of money.

Capt. Elwell said police are still looking for the man but now believe the store clerk also was involved in the holdup.

The man was described as black, between 20 and 30 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighing 170 pounds. He was wearing a black, long-sleeve shirt, black pants, mask and gloves, according to a statement from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office. He fled in a red or burgundy four-door Dodge Stratus.
