Pub patrons robbed last night

  • Follow Latest News

Three people were robbed at gunpoint while leaving a local bar Thursday night.

One of the victims told police he was leaving Helga’s Pub and Grill on Central Avenue about 10:46 p.m. when they were approached by two men wearing black clothing with black scarves over their faces, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s report.

When the robbers demanded their wallets, the victims attempted to get into their vehicle. It was then that one of the gun-wielding suspects pointed the weapon at the victim’s head and snatched their wallets and pocketbooks, the report said.

The theft occurred near the corner of Central Avenue and Russell Street.

Concealed carry and having

Concealed carry and having situational awareness may have prevented this. I hope the next victims are more prepared and maybe the case will be solved when the reporting the next day says "Two thugs shot dead by intended victims"

BRIAN B, concealed carry

BRIAN B, concealed carry would not have helped in this case since it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon in any business place that serves alcohol. Perhaps the perps were thinking of this when they chose to rob these three as they were leaving the bar. GGpap

Not the first time folks have

Not the first time folks have been robbed/assulted outside Helgas in the past 12 months. Just goes to show nothing good comes with a carpeted bar. Lower your prices and make it to were I don't smell like an ashtray making out with a week old beer and I may reconsider taking my chances in the parking lot.

ODE and RJH, I carry a

ODE and RJH, I carry a concealed weapon but I also obey the laws that govern my right to carry, and in SC no matter the percentage of alcohol vs food that is sold in a business, IF alcohol is sold it is not legal to carry on the premises. Keeping a weapon in the glove box is a poor choice since you have to get to the car, get in, and then retrieve the weapon; by that time the hoods have flown the coop and you may just be lucky enough to be alive. :-) GGpap

I'm military, so none of the CC laws apply to me. I can carry anywhere a LEO can carry in GA. But even if I wasn't, I'd still carry anywhere I thought my safety could be in question. I don't think there's a DA in our part of the country that would bring charges against anybody who defended themselves against thugs. Besides, I'd take that misdemeanor charge over being a victim any day. Concealed means concealed though, and you should keep it that way unless you actually fear for your or somebody elses life.

Georgia is the way I stated on my 3:02 post, SC must be different. However since this incident took place in Richmond County, my post is correct in relation to this article.

To those awful men, I hope you are caught and rot in jail. How dare you hold a fellow human at gun point for your own greed. I thought Obama's "spendulous" bill was supposed to lessen petty crimes...rather than increase violence.

Violent Crime has risen

Violent Crime has risen drastically in Columbia, Richmond and Aiken Counties. The only positive is that the majority of these thugs are being caught or in a couple of cases they have met a more drastic yet very appropriate response. As for GA law and carrying a concealled weapon, you certainly are permitted to carry weapons in restaurants that serve alcohol. More and more criminals are meeting citizens who are fed up and don't mind doing their best to take them out and its about time. Violent criminals are the lowest of the low, have no regard for human life and don't deserve to walk this earth after committing such acts of violence.

ChronicleReader, what in the

ChronicleReader, what in the world does Obama have to do with your basic mugging, which has happened forever and everywhere? And people, if those held up were carrying guns, it's just as likely that they would have wound up shot, not the perps. Put guns in the hands of amateurs with a few beers in 'em and that's a recipe for tragedy.

You can carry without a

You can carry without a permit. If caught the 1st offense is a misdemeanor, the 2nd is a felony. The same applies to dui with a permit. It is unfortunate that we now have to protect ourselves. I deal with people that have been robbed, they feel violated to their core. A robber already knows what he is going to do. We, as citizens, are not prepared for their actions. Be aware of your surroundings, don't take chances, and if you carry be proficient. Regardless of if you are the robber or the citizen the taking of life is not to be taken lightly.
