ATHENS, GA. -- Officers questioned a man Tuesday who was walking in an area of Athens where several cars had been broken into, and they decided from the way the man was mumbling that he was hiding something under his tongue.

The officers forced 23-year-old Kareem Bernard Thompson to cough up a rock of crack cocaine, but he took off running, according to Athens-Clarke police. Officers tackled him and said he continued to resist.

Thompson, of Hull, Ga., was charged with possession of cocaine and obstruction of a law enforcement officer, police said.
