UGA expects packed job fair today

ATHENS, Ga. -- University of Georgia organizers expect to see more job seekers and fewer employee recruiters in today's fourth annual Alumni Career Fair.

About 50 companies and agencies signed up to send representatives to the fair, which is for UGA grads only and is sponsored by the UGA Career Center and the UGA Alumni Association.

Last year, about 100 employers participated, said Nicole Lechene, associate director of alumni career services at the UGA Atlanta Alumni Center.

This year's recruiters could face about 800 alumni - the number that had signed up as of Monday morning - up from last year's record-setting 600 job seekers.

The fair - from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the ballroom of the Gwinnett Center, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth - is held in suburban Atlanta because most of UGA's alumni live there.

Only about half as many recruiters will be there this year, but many are hiring, and that's good news, according to Scott Williams, executive director of the UGA Career Center.
