SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Authorities say a South Carolina woman was killed while teaching her 13-year-old son how to park a car.

Authorities identified 40-year-old Janie Mae Hampton of Spartanburg today as the woman killed, several media outlets reported.

Officers think she was teaching her son how to park her car about 8:30 p.m. Monday and got out of the vehicle while it was moving in reverse and he was behind the wheel. Authorities say she was pinned between her car and another parked vehicle. She was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Spartanburg Public Safety Department says no charges are expected. Her son was not injured.

Didn't he have about 3 more years to worry about driving lessons? Too bad, good ole whiskey will rub that guilty feeling right out.

Why in the world is someone

Why in the world is someone teaching a 13 year old to drive, and even more, why are they standing BEHIND a car being driven by a 13 year old? I do believe that the expression "thinning the herd" applies here..........I do feel sorry for the kid who will have to live with this, but his mom was an idiot.

What a crappy thing to say. I suppose now he's destined to become an alcoholic? Your beyond tacky and your comment proves it. What kind of thing is that to say? What exactly is your meaning? Is that how you handle your problems? If it weren't you wouldn't have said that. Tactless and heartless. Those are the only two words without cursing I can think of to describe half the idiotic comments on this page. Shame on you all.

Ah, I see the field is full

Ah, I see the field is full of jackasses tonight; and I guess the meadow will be well fertilized in the morning. Having noted my observations of human nature, I offer my sincere condolences to the family and I will keep a good thought for the young man that must live with this for the rest of his life. This is a tragic story and should be treated as such, not a forum to reveal ones immaturity and lack of basic intelligence. GGpap
