One suspect was in jail. The other was released on bond last week for an unrelated charge but was questioned by police Tuesday afternoon, Richmond County sheriff's Lt. Scott Peebles said.

Police identified them as David Jackson Jr., of the 2100 block of Ellis Street, and Jimmy Fitzgerald Pontoon.

Police said they believe the men are connected to the robberies of three stores and four financial institutions between Jan. 25 and May 22, Lt. Peebles said.

The holdups involved a masked man whom police called the Scarecrow Bandit because in each robbery a man wearing a mask who sometimes resembled the “Scarecrow” character of the Batman movies would enter a business, demand money, then leave.

On May 22, police said, Mr. Jackson was caught when he entered the Dollar General in the 2500 block of Washington Road and demanded money from the employees. The employees were able to overpower him and hold him until police arrived, investigators said.

Mr. Jackson is charged with robbery by intimidation in that case and is being held without bond at the Richmond County jail.

Mr. Pontoon was arrested Friday on an unrelated charged and is free on bond.

He is the owner of a white car similar to the 1994 Cadillac Deville identified last month last month as the vehicle used in the robbery of the First Citizens Bank in the 3500 block of Walton Way Extension.

“We suspect this other guy as being involved in one or more of the robberies,” Lt. Peebles said of Mr. Pontoon.

It is likely more charges will be filed against Mr. Jackson. Mr. Pontoon has not been charged in the robberies, he said. Anyone with information can call the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at (706) 821-1080.

I agree no mention of black masks. Here is what the mask looks like in the Batman movie.

Never heard the Batman

Never heard the Batman scarecrow reference. I read it resembled the sack mask that the scarecrow killer had on in a horror movie series.

Don't those two look happy.

Don't those two look happy. Well, at least they weren't killing people like those monsters who robbed the Wing King.
