Ware County police charge nurse with stealing painkillers

WAYCROSS, Ga. -- A south Georgia nurse has been accused of stealing prescription painkillers from her patients at a Ware County nursing home, then selling the narcotics with help from her boyfriend.

Mary Elizabeth Cooper, 46, and Donavan Shawn Musgrove, 42, were arrested as the result of an ongoing investigation by Ware County Sheriff's Office detectives, Sheriff Randy Royal said Monday.

Cooper, a licensed practical nurse, was arrested about 4 p.m. Friday as she left her job at Baptist Village. Detectives took her into custody and recovered seven hydrocodone pills after stopping her car on McKinley Road, Royal said.

Musgrove, who worked at a lawnmower shop, was arrested a short time later at his and Cooper's home in the 1000 block of Hampton Road.

Cooper is charged with two counts of sale of hydrocodone, which is a Schedule III controlled substance, and one count of sale of oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance. Musgrove is charged with one count of being party to the crime of selling oxycodone, Royal said.

Both remained in custody Monday at the Ware County Jail.

The major pharmaceutical companies have spent BILLIONS getting Americans hooked on their products. Readers Digest magazine has more drug ads than stories these days and you can't watch TV for more than a few minutes without an ad telling you that you NEED a certain drug and to "ask your Doctor for it". They banned most cigarette ads a few years back, so why not drug ads? Too many kids are on Ritalin and other drugs from an early age as well. Drug them to slow them down, then drug them to wake 'em up. America's answer for too many things is to "pop a pill".

One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at all;
