Three charged in fatal shooting at restaurant

Three people were arrested Sunday and charged in a fatal shooting Saturday night.

According to a Richmond County jail committal, Susan Elaine Inglett, 24, of the 200 block of Barrow Drive, and Nicholson Rydell Williams, 18, of the 200 block of Memory Drive, were arrested Sunday morning in connection with the fatal shooting of the owner of the House of Cheung King of Wing restaurant at 2331 Milledgeville Road. Michael Eugene Williams, 20, turned himself in at the Richmond County Law Enforcement Center about 9 p.m. Sunday, according to a jailer. He had been sought on charges of murder, criminal attempt armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The shooting occurred during an attempted armed robbery about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald said.

Drowning victim had on heavy pants, boots

An Augusta teenager who drowned in the Savannah River on Saturday was wearing a jacket, heavy camouflage pants and military boots when he jumped into the water, Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald said Sunday.

Mr. McDonald said Stephen Fishel, 16, and a friend jumped into the water on the Georgia side of the river and were swimming out toward a sandbar called Goat Island when Stephen turned and began to head back in the opposite direction. He made it as far as the weed line when he went under about 1:30 p.m., Mr. McDonald said.

Stephen’s body was recovered by the Richmond County Fire Department and Dive Team hours later. He was pronounced dead at 5:33 p.m. The body was found at a depth of about 8 feet, Mr. McDonald said.

The body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta for an autopsy this morning.

Suspect sought after Publix worker robbed

A Publix employee was the victim of an armed robbery on Old Barton Chapel Road early Saturday.

According to a Richmond County sheriff’s report, the robbery occurred when the employee was exiting her vehicle. A man approached, pointed a gun at her and ordered her to get on the ground. The man struck the woman on her head, stomach, arms and back with his fist. He fled with a black handbag containing $4,800, according to the report.

The suspect is described as black, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a black ski mask, black clothing and was carrying a small handgun.

Gasoline prices rise 6 cents since last week

Gasoline prices in the Augusta area were up about 6 cents a gallon Sunday from the week before, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.

The price of a gallon of regular gas was $2.29, up from $2.23 on May 24.

Nationally, the price of a gallon of regular gas was $2.50, up from $2.42.

In Georgia, it was up 6 cents, from $2.29 a gallon to $2.35 a gallon. In South Carolina, motorists were paying $2.31 a gallon, up from $2.26 the week before.

$880,000 raised for children’s center

The 24th Annual Children’s Miracle Network Celebration raised $880,000 Sunday for the Medical College of Georgia Children’s Medical Center.

Although that was less than last year’s $925,000, “given the economy, I would say that’s pretty good,” said Denise Parrish, the media relations manager for MCG Health Inc., which operates the Children’s Medical Center.

Why does an armed 200lbs man

Why does an armed 200lbs man need to beat a woman? I'm wondering if alcohol was a factor in the drowning. Most people know their swimming abilities and would think before jumping in with shoes on. I'm a darn strong swimmer and I wouldn't try that with boots and pants on.

The article doesn't say she was at a Publix, just that she was an employee.

Yea, the 4800 is kind of suspicous. Old Barton Chapel isnt a 'bad' street, not the greatest either. Thats a lot of money for a Publix employee to be carrying around. Not saying that it's improbable, but kind of odd.

That's what bothers me about

That's what bothers me about criminals lately. The beatings. Like the Saven Haven on 56, where they pistol whipped the lady and put her in the hospitol. What was the purpose in that? You are a man with a gun, but find the need to beat a helpless woman?

The AC has gotten bad about

The AC has gotten bad about putting irrelevant information in their articles while leaving out important facts. Like why she was exiting her vehicle on Old Barton Chapel Rd. Does she live there? I know there isn't a Publix on that road, so what's the connection to Publix? Was it company money? Little details like that. Now for my rant. Why, in an article this weekend, they mention that the new WalMart is "near" Grovetown (about a mile from the city limits & probably annexed in the forseeable future), when the FEMA trailers at Arrowood (nowhere near the city limits) were headlined as being "in Grovetown"? Did they get a little "gun shy" after my comments about Arrowood, or is it positive vs negative about Grovetown?
