Officials are one vote away from nominating local banker Cedric Johnson as the chair of the new Richmond County Coliseum Authority.

In an e-mail today, state Sen. Ed Tarver said there are two senators and two house members supporting Mr. Johnson, a former chairman of the Augusta Aviation Commission, for the position.

However, delegation rules require that three House members support the candidate to make an appointment.

Mr. Tarver said they are still waiting to hear a response from Reps. Wayne Howard, Quincy Murphy and Gloria Frazier.

Oh, don't worry, Cedric will

Oh, don't worry, Cedric will get the job. He's black and all the votes that are needed, and then some, and from blacks. Just for once, wouldn't everyone like to see a group of ______ go against the color line and nominate a _______ for a position? White for a black or black for a white, I don't care...but you hardly EVER see it happening around here. I know that people, in this case it'll be black people, will come out and say "But why isn't it about the person who is most qualified?". That should ALWAYS be true, but since this happens SO MUCH around here, one can't help but feel that it's strictly along racial lines almost every time! Oh, well...come'on Cedric. Let's see what you can do. I'm just hoping you'll do what YOU want YOUR board to do and NOT what these puppeteers up in Atlanta MAKE you do! Don't ever feel that you owe them anything.

I have the pleasure of

I have the pleasure of knowing Cedric Johnson personally. Quite a few years ago he and I were employed at the same institution.
Cedric is an outstanding young man, a caring human being and one that I feel can be trusted. I don't believe he would be one that could be 'bought'.
By the way - I am white, a female and not into any politics at all.
Take that to the bank.
