Aiken thrift store fire called suspicious

Aiken authorities say they continue to investigate a May 15 thrift store fire that they’re calling suspicious.

Aiken Public Safety Lt. David Turno said today the blaze prompted scrutiny because it began near a clothes rack no where near a heating source.

No one was injured, but more than 20,000 items of clothing and household items were lost in the fire at the Whiskey Road Goodwill Emporium. The store’s sprinkler system was able to contain the fire to the back of the building, Lt. Turno said.

A worker at the store today said the location is again operational, and the damaged area has mostly been fixed
