While all the students selected for Best and Brightest have set high goals for themselves, Rayleen Lewis will need a rocket to reach hers.

After studying aerospace engineering at Georgia Tech, the Harlem High valedictorian’s career aspiration is to one day ride a NASA ship into space or to work at the space agency as an engineer. And while she is reaching for the stars, Rayleen hopes to inspire others to live a better life.

For three years, she has helped run a tobacco awareness program called “Kick Butts Day” in elementary schools and is currently involved in planning a program for middles school pupils that discourages underage drinking. She has served as a Relay for Life team captain for three years and has been a volunteer at Grovetown Elementary School since 2005.

Rayleen is the marching band captain at her school and president of Student Council; the Beta Club and the Honors Physics Club.
