WALTERBORO, S.C. — Thirteen more people have pleaded guilty in a Colleton County insurance scam that authorities say may be the biggest staged accident scheme in South Carolina history.

The suspects ranged in age from 19 to 48.

Last week's pleas mean that 30 people have now been convicted since September in the scam which involved staging wrecks and filing false insurance claims.

The defendants pleaded guilty before Circuit Judge Perry Buckner to charges of filing false claims of between $1,000 and $5,000.

Allison Dean Love with the South Carolina Insurance News Service says officials are still trying to determine the total amount of the fraudulent claims.
