Richmond County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for Nicholas Nathaniel Johnson, 20, of the 3100 block of Bellmeade Drive, who is charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, said Richmond County Sheriff’s Sgt. Calvin Chew.

Deputies were dispatched this afternoon to a home in south Augusta where they believed Nathaniel Johnson was hiding, sheriff’s Investigator Patrick Cullinan said. Once deputies arrived at the house in the 2000 block of Barnes Road, Mr. Johnson ran into the woods behind the home.

Police believe Mr. Johnson is still in the Augusta area.

Around 3:25 a.m., police believe Mr. Johnson fatally shot Tremayne Markis Cobbs, 20, in the head in the parking lot of an Econo Lodge in the 2000 block of Gordon Highway.

Witnesses told authorities that the men had been arguing while on their way to a nearby Waffle House when more than 10 shots were fired into a silver Chevrolet Suburban.

Mr. Cobbs body was found lying on the curb near the vehicle, Sgt. Chew said. Two other victims, 16-year-old Exzavius Bray and 19-year-old Danvanqwez Burley, were shot in their legs, Sgt. Chew said. Both were released from the Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics today.

Police have obtained surveillance video from the Econo Lodge that could also identify other suspects in the shooting, but won't release the footage at this time, Sgt. Chew said.

Mr. Cobbs body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta today for an autopsy.

Anyone with information about Mr. Johnson’s whereabouts can contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1080.

This is nice - A horse race

This is nice - A horse race gets the "Breaking News" banner and is posted 5 mins after the race is over. A young man losing his life takes approximately 13 hours after the incident to be mentioned and then gets buried in the middle of "Latest News".

Why is it that no one is

Why is it that no one is talking about how this shooter violated the victims rights? If this had been a cop defending himself it would be excessive force and everything else.

Too bad they all didn't kill

Too bad they all didn't kill each other. They probably were on there way to rob the Waffle House and were arguing on how they were going to split the take.
