Defending champ opens with 67

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Defending Georgia Mid-Amateur champion Jeff Knox, of Augusta, shot 5-under 67 today to share the lead with Marietta's Winston Morris after the first round of the 28th annual event at White Columns Country Club.

Knox shot 32 on his inward nine, despite bogeying the final hole.

Former Augusta resident Doug Weiss, who now lives in Alpharetta, shot 71 and is tied for 18th.

Of the other Augustans in the field, Ralph Ireland III (72) is tied for 24th, Brad Jones (73) is tied for 34th, and Jefferson Murray (76) and is tied for 79th.
