CAYCE, S.C. - A championship softball game between Midland Valley and Brookland-Cayce ended the way any heated rivalry is supposed to. The Class AAA lower state championship game went down to the final at bat in a 1-0 victory for the home Brookland-Cayce Lady Bearcats.

The two region rivals met for the fifth and sixth times this season Friday night. They entered the evening knotted in a 2-2 season series split and left still tied. Midland Valley, who reached the lower state title game through the losers’ bracket, took Game 1 by a 4-3 score to force a deciding Game 2. Brookland-Cayce scored a single run in the third inning of the final game and clung to the slim lead to give the winners’ bracket champion its only win necessary to claim the lower state crown.
