AIKEN - USC Aiken's Steven Spire threw 150 pitches in a complete-game 9-2 win over Tusculum in an elimination contest today in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

On the strength of Spire’s effort, USC Aiken rebounded from a regional opening loss Thursday night to Belmont Abbey. With the victory, the Pacers notched their fifth consecutive 40-win season. They advance to play Catawba, an 11-7 loser to Francis Marion, at 3 p.m. today. If USC Aiken wins that contest, it will play again at 7 against the loser of the Francis Marion-Belmont Abbey game, which is scheduled for 11 a.m.
