Mike Brandt, head coach for women's basketball at University of South Carolina-Aiken, is offering a new kind of basketball camp this summer. His Parent-Child Camp is for boys and girls ages 6 to 15 plus an accompanying adult. The camp is Friday and Saturday, June 12-13, at USC-A. The child and parent have the option of spending the night at a dorm on campus.

"With the economy like it is, people might not be able to take a vacation. This is kind of a mini-vacation," said Mr. Brandt.

He said the camp will stress parent-child interaction as they focus on basketball skills with drills and games.

"Even if they don't know much about basketball, they'll be able to help their child after camp is over by reinforcing what they learned," Mr. Brandt said.

The cost is $125 for two overnight campers, or $95 for a pair who will commute. The fee includes meals, a basketball and two camp T-shirts. The participating adult must be at least age 21 but does not have to be the child's parent. Check in is from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday. Camp ends at 3 p.m. Saturday.
