The CSRA Humane Society plans to sell goods to help homeless pets next month.

The animal shelter seeks the community’s help with gathering furniture, books, toys, electronics and other items for a rummage sale that will be held on June 6.

The humane society, which remains the only Augusta-area no-kill shelter, houses 230 animals on a daily basis, and needs extra funds to help feed and house the pets. The center is accepting donated items until June 3.

Anyone interested can drop off items at the shelter located at 425 Wood Street. For more information, call (706) 721-PETS.

Not 1 dollar should be spent

Not 1 dollar should be spent on homeless pets until every person has shelter and food to eat...not to mention health care...

Amen daisy!!! homeless pets

Amen daisy!!! homeless pets need food and shelter just as homeless people do. I tried to buy someone a meal once and he didn't want to do that, just wanted me to hand him the money, NOT. Yeah so he could go buy him a pint of liquor.....I think not, I'd rather feed an animal

No, not all homeless are

No, not all homeless are sorry, just the majority. Many are homeless by choice. Avoiding warrants and such....you know. Many of the habitual homeless have no wish to work and better themselves no matter what assistance you provide. You quit paying, they move on to find the next suckers. So yes, homeless dogs are definitely higher on my list than the habitual homeless people when I draw my charity cut line. In fact, we would be better off to empty the animal shelters via adoption, and institutionalize the homeless people who are, in large part, criminals and mental cases. I am not referring to the temporarily homeless due to job loss, etc. where there is already adequate taxpayer assistance. I am talking about the ones roaming our downtown streets, the ones jumping off of the trains everyday at the 5th street bridge, the ones we are building a mecca for with the new SA project. No, this one is not Obama's fault. This is our own stupidty. Quit feeding them and they will go away, go to work, or steal more in which case we can lock them up or shoot them. Give your money to the dogs who will appreciate it more.

People have the choice of

People have the choice of birth control. Even homeless people can get free or discounted birth control from a clinic. Pets have no choice but to keep breeding & creating more homeless pets until some person adopts them & spays or neuters them. These homeless pets are sweet, wonderful & always seem grateful to their adoptive owners for a home & food.

Amen, daisy. These pets need

Amen, daisy. These pets need a hand. Thanks a million to the kind folks who look after "the least of these." All of my pets came from shelters and they are wonderful. My life would be so incomplete without them!! I wish everyone would see the good in these homeless pets and give them a good, loving home. Some people are really missing out on the love of a grateful rescued pet!

Unpublished

Yes it is Obama fault. If we were able to keep more of our money, Then we would be able to buy pet food. Just like SS is running out of money WHY, Because people are not working and they are losing the income from them. Now he is taxing this and that. This is what we got to look at the next 4 years. Please do not get me wrong here, I was one of the dam fools that gave him my vote. Wish i could take it back.

We are all drawn to help in

We are all drawn to help in our own way. Some dedicate time and money to the homeless, some to animals. Animals and children bear the brunt of human cruelty and anything you can do to mitigate that is a good thing. And I know firsthand about the work the CSRA Humane Society does...they are GREAT. Please come out and support them!

Both are good causes (yes,

Both are good causes (yes, once in a while you'll find animals and people who bite) and you can make a difference. So help the homeless pets by donating or purchasing some goods on June 6th - and while you're at it, look around pretty much anywhere in the CSRA and you'll find a homeless person. Try giving them a meal, a nice clean shirt or some of your time. They're people too, and in most instances are starved for human contact, just like the cats and dogs in the shelters.
