FLORENCE, Ala. -- An Augusta man who went to Alabama to visit family for Mother's Day, was fatally shot early Sunday, and another man is under arrest.

Joel Ricks, 27, of Augusta, formerly of Muscle Shoals, Ala., was shot multiple times in an apartment, police told the Florence Times Daily.

Jermaine Anwar Jefferson, 27, of Florence, is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center, charged with murder.

"At this point, we have no evidence to indicate that this was anything other than a domestic situation," police detective Capt. Randy England told the newspaper.

Detectives said Mr. Ricks was at the Graham Avenue residence visiting a woman who lived in the apartment where the shooting occurred. Authorities said Mr. Ricks had known the woman before he moved to Georgia.
