ATHENS, Ga. -- A UGA professor who fatally shot three people April 25, appeared to be targeting one of the male victims, police told a news conference this morning.

While they admit that George Zinkhan and his wife, former Augustan Marie Bruce, were having marital difficulties, police told reporters that victim Tom Tanner appeared to be a "special target" and that another victim Ben Tanner happened to get in the way.

Speaking to a group of TV and newspaper reporters, police also said Zinkhan appeared to have killed himself five to 14 days after the April 25 shooting.

A terrible tragedy, but that

A terrible tragedy, but that was my speculation from the start. Mr. Teague happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now two children have to live the rest of their life without a mother or father.
