USC Aiken to host baseball regional

USC Aiken will serve as the region host for the NCAA Division II Baseball Southeast Regional it was announced by the NCAA Division II Baseball Committee on Sunday evening.

No. 2 USC Aiken will be the top seed in the region and will play its first contest of the regional at approximately 7 p.m. on Thursday. The Pacers will take on the sixth-seeded Belmont Abbey Crusaders, who they have already defeated twice in 2009. Belmont Abbey earned its way into the NCAA Division II Tournament by claiming the Conference Carolinas Tournament title.

The 2009 Peach Belt Conference Tournament champions, region second-seeded Francis Marion will take on at-large and fifth-seeded Tusculum from the South Atlantic Conference.

The third Peach Belt Conference team in the regional, third-seeded Georgia College & State will take on fourth-seeded and SAC Tournament champion Catawba.

The full schedule and game times are not available just yet. They will be released today.
