Pitcher makes quick work of foe

Mike Loree gave the Augusta GreenJackets his best outing of the season Thursday night, and the home team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods.

The GreenJackets wrapped up their quickest game of the year in two hours, 11 minutes thanks to Loree’s quick work of the Hot Rod bats. He needed only 76 pitches to throw a season-high 7Q innings and induced 14 fly balls on the night - 10 were infield pop ups.

The GreenJackets needed help offensively to break a late 1-1 tie and got it on an eighth-inning error from Bowling Green’s Robi Estrada. After Wendell Fairley reached on a leadoff single and moved to second on a ground out, Estrada fielded a Juan Perez grounder cleanly, but his throw was high enough over the first baseman’s head to allow Fairley to score from second.
