SC debates 'born alive' bill

COLUMBIA — South Carolina legislators plan to discuss a bill that ensures a fetus who survives an abortion attempt is not treated as medical waste.

A Senate Judiciary panel will discuss the bill today. The House approved it in February.

The proposal defines a person as anyone who is breathing and has a beating heart after birth, whether by labor, cesarean section, or abortion.

A fetus who survives an abortion attempt would be entitled to treatment as any other person. Supporters say it also applies to later-term abortions where the fetus' lungs are expected to be insufficiently developed for breathing. No group tracks how often either happens.

The bill copies the Born Alive Infant Protection Act signed in 2002 that applies to federal land and facilities.

This bill also defines an unborn baby as not human.

People are either "pro-life" or "pro-death". When God starts that little heart beating a life has been formed. God is the ONLY ONE who can do that, and He does not want us altering what He has started.

Got to agree with you Curly.

Bought and sold humans for 190 yrs, sold men, women & children for rape and torture, but this state now wants to control birth procedures. Wow! This bunch never changes, and continues to be on the wrong side of history.

You know Ive always wondered with late term abortion when the baby, um sorry, FETUS is delivered all but the head and then the brains are sucked out, what happens if the 'fetus' head slips out before the skull is punctured, what then?

pantherluvcik

I thought in late term abortions the baby was delivered via induction, not sucked out. It is only sucked out before it is considered late term.

patriciathomas as usual, gets right to the heart of the matter. I might add that it's a person at the moment of conception, or no one would be clamoring to abort it. If it's just a lump of tissue and not a person, there is no need to abort it, is there? A whole lot of double-talk going on, isn't there? Disguising a bad thing as a good thing as usual by defining the baby as a person only after birth.

Obama as the newly appointed god has commanded that only HE will be the one to determine when life begins. Just a few months ago he proclaimed that it was "above his pay grade" to make that decision, but now with his new rise to the throne HE and only HE will be the decider of life and death in his new domain.

I'm hoping that this is a carbon copy of the 2003 law Illinois has on its books -- i.e. the ONE Obama voted AYE on.

Yeah, any other bill he only voted "Present" on. When he didn't have the gang behind him he was too cowardly to vote, but now that he is the annointed messiah he thinks that HE will decide every facet of our lives. I guess some loser in Williston is one of those that can't do for himself and must depend on the sweat of others for everything he has. Pitiful and pathetic. But typical of a liberal. Don't worry though.....Pretty soon he'll run out of OUR money and have to stop his socialist takeover.
