More severe weather could arrive todayfor the Augusta area, with a chance for high winds and hail.

Thunderstorms are predicted across the region with highs in the low 80s.

Michael Cammarata, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in West Columbia, S.C., said there’s a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms again this afternoon and night and a “slight risk” for winds reaching 50 mph or greater to include hail that could be larger than three quarters of an inch in diameter.

However, Mr. Cammarata said the weather service doesn’t think the storm should bring any tornadoes.
