ATLANTA — Atlanta police are looking for three suspects in the carjacking of a Georgia Tech student.

Police say 23-year-old mechanical engineering student Patrick Whaley, of Cumming, is in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital after he was shot once in the lower back late Monday night near the Atlanta campus. Police say three men took his car after the shooting but soon abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police recovered the car.

Georgia Tech spokesman Matt Nagel said a crime alert was sent to students shortly after the incident. He said campus police are helping Atlanta investigators with the case.
