More severe weather could arrive Wednesday for the Augusta area, with a chance for high winds and hail.
Michael Cammarata, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in West Columbia, S.C., said theres a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms again Wednesday afternoon and night and a slight risk for winds reaching 50 mph or greater to include hail that could be larger than three quarters of an inch in diameter.
Still, Mr. Cammarata said the weather service doesnt think the storm should bring any tornadoes.
Theres an upper level disturbance that will be moving through the area, he said, adding that such thunderstorms are common for this time of year. Were starting to transition into that type of scenario as we head into May and into June. We transition into the summer time type of convection.
