A Grovetown man surrendered to police early today after several hours in his estranged wife’s house on Hereford Farm Road.

Police say James Carswell, 61, of the 1100 block of Dodge Lane, had an ax when he forced his way into the home of Cheryl Carswell, 61, about midnight.

Mrs. Carswell fled the home in Mr. Carswell’s truck.

When police arrived, Mr. Carswell refused to come out of the home, sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said.

Mr. Carswell eventually surrendered without incident, Capt. Morris said. He complained of chest pains and was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Capt. Morris said.

Mr. Carswell will face police obstruction charges, Capt. Morris said.

It's a good thing most people

It's a good thing most people have enough self-control to refrain from doing to their husband and his sugar mamma (or wife and sugar daddy) what they feel like doing when they get served divorce papers.

$100 bet that he is

$100 bet that he is Caucasian, GOP backer, drives a beat up pick 'emt up truck with the ever impressive gun rack and matching confederate flag on his front tag and bumper sticker on back, lives on a dirt road and is a card carrying member of the NRA and former RCSO deputy!

Actually you are only right

Actually you are only right on one assumption Erayzer. I'm not sure what would prompt anyone to do this but the Carswell's are nice people. I hate to hear this happened.

Isn't 61 just a little bit

Isn't 61 just a little bit old for this type of silliness? Shouldn't you have your knowledge of right and wrong figured out by this time in your life?

One of Joe's brother passed away several years ago and his older brother is a doctor and his wife is Julie. Wrong family.

Why do people insist on

Why do people insist on losing all self-control in cases like this to the point of getting arrested? If you do not get along with your spouse or significant other, then separate, divorce or whatever, but do it without being so violent.

Sounds like Job would have

Sounds like Job would have had a hard time controlling himself under those circumstances. I'd hate to see a saint under those kind of trials, even Job would have had a hard time with those losses. I doubt seriously that the husband "insisted" on losing self-control. Sounds like he was pushed there.

I can understand the

I can understand the stressful situation if those things are true, herschelcarswell3. People do strange things for reasons beyond my comprehension each and every day. However, that doesn't give anyone the right to take an ax and try to break a door down. I'm not sure anyone would have enough power over me to "push" me into doing something that irrational. I could be wrong, though. Just saying...

Exactly workingmom, you're

Exactly workingmom, you're not sure. None of us are, even if we are in exactly the same situation. Let's hope we #1, are never in a similar situation, #2, if we ever are, we channel any anger in a productive, not destructive, way. I'm sure the axe-wielder, knew full well he didn't have any right to break the door down. That really isn't relevant to someone in the heat of rage.
