Augusta Raging River won't play in 2009

The United States Basketball Association will announce Tuesday the cancellation of its 2009 season. League owner and president Duane Allen Jenkins confirmed the report Monday afternoon.

The newly formed league, which was to include a team in Augusta called the Raging River, originally intended to begin its inaugural season in 2008. Tuesday’s announcement will mark the second season the league has cancelled.

Jenkins said the two main reasons for shutting down are the current state of the economy and the poor reputation other minor league basketball teams have left in USBA markets.

“It’s not that we don’t have the money to do this thing,” he said. “I have to distance myself from what’s happening with these other leagues. Other towns are lumping us in with what these other teams have done.”

Jenkins said the league will return in 2010 with teams in 15 markets.

“We are going to be back next year,” he said. “No question about it.”

It pains me to see yet

It pains me to see yet another flop of a sports team in Augusta. The Groove was also a flop and did do alot to destroy any future teams chances in Augusta including the Augusta Colts who wrecked football in Augusta also with their own brand of bad behavior.
We all are wondering what its going to take to get sports in Augusta to make it.

Wow, this is terrible! I

Wow, this is terrible! I don't understand why Augusta can't keep a sports team. I know, we don't support!! I went to 8 of the 10 Groove games this past season & was trying to get tickets for the Raging River. It saddens me that we don't go out & enjoy or should I say support out local talent. it seems we have every excuse in the book to why we can't make the games. The most heared of all is the prices were too high. Are you kidding??!! The tickets were only $10!!! This is for a semi-pro sports event. Most pay more than that for a College.

It is all about supply and

It is all about supply and demand except when the government wants to decide to spend taxpayer money on a new baseball stadium to replace the one that is only 13 years old and recently remodeled. Maybe if you Greenjackt, Goove and River fans pay $100 or $1000 per ticket then you can have more sports teams in Augusta and build new stadiums for you own use without adding more useless spending for taxpayers to pay.
