New federal regulations mandate specific pool drain and cover standards, but no funds are available to make those improvements, although three pools including the one at Magnolia Springs State Park near Millen - will remain open under concession agreements.
Approximately 20 lakeside beaches, pools at state park lodges and the splash pad at Ocmulgee State Park will remain open and available.
Other parks that will suspend pool operations this summer include Crooked River, F.D. Roosevelt, Florence Marina, General Coffee, Georgia Veterans, Gordonia-Alatamaha, Kolomoki Mounds, Laura Walker and Skidaway Island.
State officials are contacting guests who already made overnight reservations at these parks, offering transfers or refunds if requested.
