No one was injured this afternoon after a fire damaged a two-story Martinez house near Belair Frontage Road.

The fire began about 1:15 p.m. at 4377 Sandy Ridge Place, owned by Adam Black, and was fully involved when firefighters with Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue arrived on scene within five minutes of the call, Battalion Chief Danny Kuhlmann said.

The house’s attic and second floor were destroyed by the fire, while the bottom floor sustained smoke and water damage, said Chief Kuhlmann, adding that the fire was under control in 18 minutes.

The fire initially had spread to a house next door at 4379 Sandy Ridge Place, but caused little damage before firefighters were able to extinguish it, he said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and is believed to have started in the attic, Chief Kuhlmann said.

A sign in the front yard listed the house for sale.
