So, we should tear down the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument. It their time they were no less, nor no more, traitors than Lee, Jackson, Beauregard, Davis, et alia.

If you can focus long enough,

If you can focus long enough, read the History of the American Colonies. Seems there was a King named George who had rebellious colonists in the New World who forced him to send an army to try to subdue them. The army failed to suppress the Traitors such as Hancock, Adams, Gwinnett, Madison, Monroe, Franklin, Attucks, Washington, Jefferson, so instead of those men being called traitors, which in George's eyes they were, they are known as patriots. If you d..... yankees are so happy that the true patriots of the mid eighteen hundreds lost that war, leave the South to those of us who consider the CSA a part of our proud heritage. We need you almost as much as we need a good case of piles. Oh, and that should be: to whom?

The CSA was nothing moe than an "outlaw nation" ! If a group of states today decided to just quit paying their share of federal taxes and secede they way they did it would be the same thing.

Who said anything about a hero, I was merely quoting someone.
As for people that knock Southener's heritage while living amongst them then they better get used to being told to leave.
Because we will not chenge our lifestyle to appease a bunch of Yankees and I will not be told to be ashamed of my culture.

I think the root of the problem is that some uneducated people still belive that the civil war was a slavery issue. Read a book.

I am not from the south, nor

I am not from the south, nor do I condone many of the things that the war was fought over.

However, I do believe that when the federal government oversteps its bounds and begins to take away State's rights, States should take a stand.

The war is over, but that does not mean that we should forget those who died fighting for a cause they believed in.

This day also serves as a reminder that the Government should fear its people and adhere to the constitution.

...Not bad for a Yankee eh?

@justright, Obviously it was

@justright, Obviously it was a state's rights issue. But it really doesn't change the fact that slavery, which was directly related to Southern commerce, was a central issue.

Regardless, a life lost is a life lost. Many people from the North AND South died in the the Civil War. It's an important part of Southern culture and Georgia's history. We should respect that.

Come on folks, these state

Come on folks, these state holidays are only for a select few. Why all the animosity? IF it had not been for the Civil War the South would be considered a present day thirld world country. Because of the civil war, we entered the industrial age in the south, and that opened up a whole new world. Also the slaves were freed, and given the opportunity to pursue life , liberty, and Happiness.

Everyone knows the " history"

Everyone knows the " history" of the war. The only difference is that you wish to romanticize it. Again, I do not care if you celebrate it every day of the year.

curly.....you better go have

curly.....you better go have a word with texas because they have been talking about seceding......if they do will you sign up to go kick their butts......i highly doubt that if texas or any other states decided to seced today that we would go to war over it now........the financial stability of the entire nation is no longer centered in just a few states like it was back in 1861.....in 1861 lincoln knew that without southern cotton the north could not survive.......so he ignored the constitution and the sovernty of states rights.....technically he was the traitor......states should have rights and if texas is allowed to go then i think the rest of the former csa states should consider going too.

Unpublished

It's the black elected officials that must assume some responsibility for such a despicable example of respect for their ancestors. They have failed to properly evident the atrocities of human bondage through fail legislation. This day, shamefully holds free labor, violations of the Bill of Rights, violence & murder, as a high honor. Wow! What a pathetic example of forming "A More Perfect Union."
