Powerfest, strawberry festival, historic tour on for today

Powerfest begins at 11 a.m. at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds on Hale Street. Steve Harvey will serve as a host and performers include Big Boi, O.J. da Juiceman, Young L.A., Gorilla Zoe, Maino, Pleasure P, Rich Girl, Brutha and Ron Browz. You can also check out the Greg Street Celebrity Car Show. Admission is $12 advance, or $20 day of show; Advance tickets are at Household Rental and Sales and power107.net. Call (706) 396-6000.

- Our Lady of Peace Catholic School, 856 Old Edgefield Road in North Augusta, will hold its annual Strawberry Festival Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The festival will feature a strawberry-shortcake-eating contest, a bake sale and a strawberry bake-off. Admission is free, but tickets are required to purchase items and participate in the activities. Tickets are 25 cents each. Call (803) 279-8396.

- Four private homes and some historic properties are featured on the annual Historic Beech Island Tour of Homes, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tour stops include the Hammond-Walker-Simkins home; the LeRoy Simkins River House; Rains home and Gary McElmurray's Oakwood Farms home; churches, the Beech Island Historical Society's History and Visitors Center; and Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site. The event begins at All Saints Episcopal Church Parish House, 1595 Williston Highway, Beech Island. Admission is $20 in advance or $25 adults, $20 ages 60 and older day of tour. Pirate - LOL! Here is a heads

Pirate - LOL! Here is a heads up for all you speeders. Every motorcycle deputy on the RCSO is on duty at Powerfest as are many of the off-duty deputies. The dispatchers are having to pull cars off their normal beats for funeral escorts since no more officers are available for "specials". It should be clean and green out there if you need to get somewhere in a hurry.
