NORTH AUGUSTA -- A police incident report has confirmed accounts that gunshots were fired Thursday at a bank robber who fled the scene of a holdup.

According to the report by North Augusta Department of Public Safety, attorney Jim Huff drew his personal pistol and fired two shots at the suspect in Thursday’s robbery of Bank of America on Martintown Road.

Witnesses said a man entered the bank at about 12:30 p.m. wearing black clothing with a white cover over his face, pointed a pistol at a bank teller and demanded that all of the people in the bank lie on the floor.

He took an undisclosed amount of money and fled.

Mr. Huff, who was outside the bank, saw him leave and fired two shots at the suspect in an effort to make him stop. The suspect fled into a wooded area behind the bank.

Well, I guess that shoots(no pun intended) the hell out of the theory I proposed yesterday. But in this case I am glad to admit I was wrong!

I hope he hit him and they find him dead in the woods like a wounded deer that gets shot and falls after running a ways and then dropping from loss of blood. Sorry to sound cold but if you can't afford to die, don't rob a bank.

Gunfire would have been more

Gunfire would have been more appropriate than gunplay. I'm just glad that attorney Huff had the guts to shoot at the moron.

I agree "gunplay" was the wrong word. I did find out that he was in and out of there in a matter of a few minutes and so I guess even with a helicopter, the cops couldn't have gotten there in time. I also heard they had the bloodhound team out looking in the woods. He got lucky this time, but might not be so lucky next time. I want to see a camera shot of him to see if I may have seen him before. I'd turn him in, in a heartbeat.

Too bad attorney Huff missed.

Too bad attorney Huff missed. Kudos for a private citizen willing to stand up against these thugs who commit crimes on the innocent. Hopefully this idiot will be caught, prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows and will be off the streets.

I hope that Mr. Jim Huff is

I hope that Mr. Jim Huff is arrested. I really don't understand what possessed him to act in such a reckless manner. Had he accidentally shot a kid everyone would totally view his actions in a different light. There is a good reason why trained police officers should be the ones who shot at criminals. But since everyone thinks its ok to act as he has, lets see how you guys feel when other people start to act in this manner. Everyone is going to be afraid to go to the bank in fear of being shot by someone standing outside the bank attempting to shoot at a bank robber. Mr. Huff I hope that you realize that although this individual is wrong for stealing that does not give you the right to take his life. Think about it.

Kudos to Mr Huff for trying to help, but it seems like he needs to go to the shooting range and practice a little more often. Then maybe he wouldn't have missed.

whyworry - Mr. Huff is

whyworry - Mr. Huff is licensed to carry the gun he fired and acted in a responsible manner. Your assumption that he was attempting to take the life of the thief is ridiculous and shows no forethought. Just because a gun is used, it is wrong to assume that he was trying to mortally wound the felon. He should be commended for doing something in a situation where many either paralyzed by fear or weakness do nothing.

I will take my chances with a

I will take my chances with a good citizen shooting at thugs and bank robbers rather than let this theiving scumbag get away clean and be emboldened to come back and keep robbing banks until he decides to shoot some patron or teller. Too bad he didn't catch a head shot but maybe hearing some lead whiz by will make him think before he trys it again. I too hope he is found in the woods dead or maybe laid up somewhere with a festering belly wound and too scared to go to the hospital. Thieves are the lowest form of human life and when they are armed they are one stupid decision from being a murderer. They are habitual repeat offenders and the best solution is to put them down. Kudos to Mr. Huff for giving it a try.

could it be the same guy that

could it be the same guy that has been robbing all these banks? I am sorry I am a single mom struggling to make ends meet but it would never occur to me to go rob a bank. and for the ones that are talking about the attorney shooting at the guy what if the robber had shot someone as he was robbing the bank. Also with technology now why cant pictures be clearer so you can see more detail? I am not just talking about this photo I am talking about cameras from stores too.

WhyWorry, it's people like

WhyWorry, it's people like Jim Huff, who legally carries his weapon, who can possibly make a would be thief think twice before committing a crime. I agree with mh1401 and Mad Max. More citizens need to make a stand and tell the criminal element that, "We're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore!" As for the police, I hope they catch the robber and he is brought to swift and complete justice.

Mr. Huff did not have

Mr. Huff did not have justification in firing at the suspect unless he was endangering his life or the life of a third party. There is a fleeing felon rule, but to fire at a fleeing bank robber is asking to be charged with murder if he was killed. If he had killed the suspect he would have been hiring one of his fellow attorneys to defend him in a murder trial. I agree with what he was trying to do and it would be great if we could just shoot someone like this dead and go about our business, but it just doesn't work that way anymore and I hope some of you don't carry weapons because you are going to cost the taxpayers a lot of money prosecuting you in court.

Maybe this particular crook

Maybe this particular crook will have second thoughts about robbing banks again. SwampGhost, that may have been exactly why he didn't hit him. Maybe he hoped that the fleeing robber would stop fleeing if he thought he was being shot at. We are not given enough information in this article to know what happened. I don't watch news on TV.

"Those who live by the sword,

"Those who live by the sword, will die by the sword". If he hasn't learned his lesson yet, he will sooner or later. It's not right for citizens to be struggling to make ends meet, and sure as hell ain't right for some uneducated scum to steal from others. He deserved to be shot, and I give my upmost respect to Mr. Huff for taking the responsibility of taking this [filtered word]down. With more people like Mr. Huff around, maybe criminals will realize that citizens aren't playing around anymore.

If I had been in that bank at that time, I would have been terrified. The people who work there and the customers must be traumatized. Thank God it didn't result in a very, very bad ending. And that's coming from an atheist.

Imagine what could have

Imagine what could have happened if a true gunfight was started by the moron with his personal weapon. An innocent bystander could have been injured or killed (or even the moron, himself). No one has successfully robbed a bank in recent history. You give them the money..complete with dye bomb..and let them leave. They will be caught, the money is insured, no one gets hurt. Keep this guy away from me!!
