Gunplay followed bank holdup

NORTH AUGUSTA -- A police incident report has confirmed accounts that gunshots were fired Thursday at a bank robber who fled the scene of a holdup.

According to the report by North Augusta Department of Public Safety, attorney Jim Huff drew his personal pistol and fired two shots at the suspect in Thursday’s robbery of Bank of America on Martintown Road.

Witnesses said a man entered the bank at about 12:30 p.m. wearing black clothing with a white cover over his face, pointed a pistol at a bank teller and demanded that all of the people in the bank lie on the floor.

He took an undisclosed amount of money and fled.

Mr. Huff, who was outside the bank, saw him leave and fired two shots at the suspect in an effort to make him stop. The suspect fled into a wooded area behind the bank.
