North Augusta Public Safety’s Lt. Tim Pearson said a man wearing black pants, a black shirt and a mask and carrying a pistol entered the bank around 12:30 p.m. and demanded money. He fled into a wooded area behind the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

A state constable who was in the parking lot at the time attempted to stop the robber as he came out of the bank but was unable to make physical contact.

Lt. Pearson said a report that gunshots were fired has not been verified.

No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male with dreadlocks, wearing dark clothing.

You gotta hit em! If not,

You gotta hit em! If not, you're just giving anti-gun folks fuel for their fire. I can see it now, "He lacked training and could've shot a bystander!"

thinktwice--one of these

thinktwice--one of these days, if you are so unfortunate as to be a crime victim, you too would want to fight back. So, let's let him go ahead and rob the bank and put everybody in danger, right? Heck no--i'm fighting back!

I'm all for carrying a

I'm all for carrying a concealed weapon, but unless he or anyone else was in immediate danger, then he should not have fired. Being that the guy fled, he probably was on his way out the bank when the shots were fired.
Now the question I want to know is WAS THE GUY THAT FIRED SHOTS CHARGED WITH ANYTHING?

For the record I hope he shot

For the record I hope he shot the guy - the Lord needs to help us with all these thugs robbing the damn banks (not the people shooting them) - maybe the guy carrying the gun is His answer (I dont know)

But a special thanks to the paper for finally giving a description that included skin color.

Including skin color? Really

Including skin color? Really Thinktwice? I bet that helps some sleep at night to know the the robber fits their stereotype. I like the way you reference the Lord, wish harm upon someone, and enjoy the generalization of a robber being black in the same post! I think you just put yourself in the generalization of a group that many free thinkers do not appreciate! But good for the person who stood up and pulled a gun in defense at the bank...Kudos !

I am glad he didn't hit the crook. I can't stand the thought of a mother blubbering on TV telling all of us what a wonderful son he was and what a pillar of society and what a great father he was to all his kids by seven girlfriends, etc etc etc.

It figures someone would want

It figures someone would want the shooter to be charged. So I guess someone must be executed during the robbery before we should defend ourselves?

mike mosly, it doesn't matter

mike mosly, it doesn't matter if a bank robber is still in the bank, on the way out or whatever, he was still a bank robber and the citizen had every right to shoot the SOB.

Native007, skin color is

Native007, skin color is relavent when describing an escaped criminal so the public will know what to look for. Of course, you "free thinkers" never think of such things (if you really think at all).

So the shooter is a good guy...perhaps...what if the shooter turns out to be a skin head with a history of shooting at dreadlocks? love these leaps folks make!

Ramjam, it wouldn't matter if

Ramjam, it wouldn't matter if he had a history of it or not. He shot at a criminal, end of story. You'd also have to prove of other incidents when this man was armed and present at a robbery being commited by someone without dreadlocks and he held his fire. Choose your arguements carefully, because your arguement may cause others to ignore one that is realistic and possibly valid.

Jack, you are absolutely

Jack, you are absolutely right! I did miss that. Yet it is quite funny how one would quote so many contradictions in the same post. Yet would she have used the word thug had the description been a white male? Possibly. I do plenty of thinking my friend and when I see one use the "I am close with God" approach and then say then hope someone was shot...I giggle to myself at the irony. Does that count as thinking? I do agree with the citizen having the right to shoot the robber.

Good thing we have a citizen

Good thing we have a citizen on the job b/c I know the people VERY close by and someone saw him out their window and called the police right them so how did he get away. Oh, they are more interested in stopping people who are speeding through North Augusta. Or they went to Aiken to the new Dunkin Doughnuts. I couldn't resist that last sentence. I just don't see how if they were called when he was entering the place, that he got away. WOW! I love living in NA, but now I don't feel quite as safe.

As long as the economy is

As long as the economy is this bad, we will see this happening more often. I guess we need OBAMA to spend more of our tax dollars for bars on all banks, and make them like a night time gas station with no entry.

I am glad that the citizen did not hit the robber. He doesnt have the right to fired at him. He will be charge with this. Now on the other side, If he had the law on his side, He should have killed him.

Could it be that this whole

Could it be that this whole thing was planned? Have they found any spent shell casings? Are there any bullets lodged in the walls or other areas? Do the authorities know who the citizen was that did the shooting? Conflicting stories as to what happened? Will the citizen be charged with discharge of a weapon in public? Was he licensed to carry a weapon in public? Was the gun even real? Were the shots fired as a diversion? Was the bank robber armed? Certainly not enough info presented in this article to make a definite conclusion about anything,

Native007, Black or White,

Native007, Black or White, doesn't matter. The best scenerio would have been the armed citizen would have plugged the SOB and laid him out cold in the lobby of the bank. Since that didn't happen, a description helps ID the perp, and black or white is the #1 place to start with a description. It makes it a lot easier to find him. Of course a gunshot wound and dripping blood would help too.

While we are all arguing over

While we are all arguing over if the perp should have been shot at or not has anyone given thought to the daycare right behind the bank? I don't care if he was black, white purple, or green .... there was a school full of little kids that could have turned into a horrible situation had he tried to get into it.
