Hephzibah credit union robbed

Richmond County deputies are searching for a suspect this afternoon after a hooded man robbed the CSRA Federal Credit Union in Hephzibah.

The suspect entered the bank, located on the 2500 block of Tobacco Road, at about 12:16 p.m. and demanded cash from the teller, according to sheriff’s Investigator Glenn Rahn.

The man was wearing a gray sweatsuit and a mask over his face, Investigator Rahn said. He fled on foot.

“He was last seen in the parking lot headed westbound on foot,” Investigator Rahn said.

The incident and description of the robber compares to a robbery at the CSRA Federal Credit Union on Wheeler Road in February, so police believe he could be the suspect in both robberies, said Richmond County Sheriff’s Sgt. Calvin Chew.

Anyone with information can call the Richmond County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Department at (706) 821-1020.
