Almost 500 people came to Augusta State University’s Christenberry Fieldhouse this afternoon hoping to land a job.

Burke Johnston, a recently laid off machine operator, said searching for a job for the first time in more than nine years was tough, but the job fair made it easier.

“You have different companies all in one spot,” Mr. Johnston said. “For someone who hasn’t looked for a job in years, that helps.”

The Augusta Chronicle sponsored the job fair that provided a meeting place for 20 local businesses and hundreds of area job seekers.

The final turnout total will likely compare to years past, said Sarah Childers, of The Chronicle.
