Police seek mother after child, 4, found wandering Central Avenue

  • Follow Latest News

Police are looking today for the mother of a 4-year-old who was found wandering the streets on Monday.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said it will charge Allison Barnes, 24, of the 1900 block of Central Avenue with deprivation of a minor after her child was discovered sitting on the side of the road and her apartment was discovered filled with filth.

A woman driving down Central Avenue saw the child sitting on the shoulder of Central Avenue around 7:15 p.m., according to a sheriff’s report.

The woman contacted police, and officers began a door-to-door search for the child’s home. Officers located the apartment where the child lives and found the apartment with no food in the refrigerator and the floor littered with food, dirty clothes and roaches, according to the report.

There was no one present at the home, and the back door was open. The child was released to her aunt, but deputies have yet to find Ms. Barnes.

I'm thankful for the person

I'm thankful for the person who called the police.....see the need....act on it. If it's a mistake....it can be fixed...if not....a child is safe.

You know, I really make an jerk of myself sometimes, but I always get a little choked up about stories like this. It makes me think of my own son. I cannot imagine if something happened to me and his mother, and he'd be raised by someone that would neglect him like this.

Prayers for this child, I

Prayers for this child, I have a 4 yr old of my own and cannot imagine a 4yr old having to fend for themselves. I pray the mother is safe, too, but if this is wrongdoing and neglect, I hope justice prevails in the best interest and well-being of this child. NO CHILD deserves this...it is a long term effect...and it is NOT fair.

I'm a mother of three and

I'm a mother of three and could not imagine the neglect this little one has been through. I don't like to pass judgement before I have heard the whole story but no food, filth everywhere and no mom to be found?!!!?!!!! Roaches don't set up camp overnight either! I hope and pray the child is young enough not to remember this and the aunt gives him or her a loving stable environment.

I don't condone the way the mother acted but I do wonder what kind of Aunt does this kid have? I believe I would take care of a family member in as much danger as this kid was in.

This morning, I was thinking

This morning, I was thinking about the many times I have heard people who would say that they saw something burning and that they would not call 911because "they don't want to get involved." Just calling the police or fire department and reporting something wrong happening is not getting involved.
I am glad that this time there was someone willing to "get involved" when they saw this child on the side of the road.
I just hope the mother is not somewhere and in trouble.
