GREENWOOD, S.C. — Authorities are investigating a house fire in which two children were killed and their mother and two siblings were hospitalized.

The Greenwood County Coroner's office said that 3-year-old Arian Makins and 4-year-old Alisha Makins were pronounced dead at the scene after a fire broke out at their Greenwood County home Saturday afternoon.

Their mother, Chrystal Reed, and two other siblings, a 12-year-old and a 1-year-old, were airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits said they were in critical condition Sunday.

The State Law Enforcement Division Arson Investigation unit has been called in to assist with the case. The cause of the fire hasn't been determined. Authorities said the home did not have smoke detectors.
