A reported chemical leak Saturday at the International Paper Co. plant in south Augusta likely was sewer gas, according to fire department officials.

The Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department and a hazmat team responded to a call from the plant on Mike Padgett Highway, but could not find a chemical leak, said Richmond County Battalion Chief Chris Reid.

"It was most likely just sewer gas from a drain," Chief Reid said.

No injuries were reported.
