Hazmat team responds to chemical leak at south Augusta plant

A chemical leak occurred this afternoon at the International Paper Co. plant on Mike Padgett Highway.

According to a dispatcher for the Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department, the fire department and hazmat team have cleaned up the leak, possibly of hydrogen sulfide.

The dispatcher could not confirm if anyone was injured by the chemical leak, which was reported about 4:40 p.m.
